Queen's Codex Event Overview
Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 drops August 8, 2025, with the Queen's Codex event, a limited-time battle pass featuring 24 rewards across free and premium tiers. The event operates like a mini battle pass, offering cosmetic rewards including three major character skins and various sprays, nameplates, and emotes.
Players earn XP through matches to unlock rewards, with the standout being a free Symbiote Thing skin at level 18. Premium pass holders get exclusive Black Widow and Hela costumes, plus permanent access to complete the event at their own pace without time pressure.

Free vs Premium Queen's Codex Rewards
The Queen's Codex runs 24 levels deep, mixing free cosmetics with premium exclusives. Free players can grab sprays, nameplates, emotes, and gallery cards without spending a dime. The Symbiote Thing costume transforms the orange rocky hero into a black and white symbiote version.
Premium pass buyers get access to two major skins. Phoenix Widow for Black Widow arrives at level 6, featuring fiery red and gold styling that makes Natasha look commanding on the battlefield. The final reward at level 24 is Queen in Black for Hela, described as her darkest and most regal skin yet.
Several reward slots remain unannounced across both tiers. NetEase hasn't revealed content for levels 4, 10, 12, 16, and 23.
Queen's Codex Exclusive Skins
Free tier rewards include the School of Equilibrium gallery card at level 2, a Fiery Judgement emote for Black Widow at level 3, and various sprays and nameplates throughout. The Symbiote Thing costume lands at level 18, followed by emotes for both The Thing and Hela.
Premium rewards kick off with the Shark Cited spray at level 1. Phoenix Widow arrives at level 6 with matching nameplate at level 8. A Dynamic Mood Bundle hits at level 13, building toward the final Queen in Black Hela costume at level 24.
Premium pass buyers get permanent access to the event. Once purchased, there's no time limit to finish all 24 levels. This removes the usual pressure to grind everything before the deadline.
Queen's Codex Premium Pass Value
The Queen's Codex premium pass costs 690 Lattice, matching recent mini battle pass pricing. Full seasonal battle passes cost 990 Lattice, making this event pass cheaper due to its smaller scope.
The permanent access feature makes this different from typical limited events. Premium buyers can take months to complete all 24 levels, making the pass more appealing for casual players who can't dedicate hours daily to progression.
Major Content Additions
Blade joins the roster as the headlining new hero, powered by both Phoenix fire and the living abyss according to the game's lore. He launches with three cosmetic bundles: Polarity Edge, Emoji, and Dynamic Mood, all available August 8.
The update includes three new story chapters covering Blade, Iron Man, and Rocket Raccoon. A new map called Throne of Knull arrives alongside the Resource Rumble game mode, though competitive integration waits until after Quick Match testing on August 22.
NetEase added custom muted words for chat filtering and a new Faction tab. Tournament play gets latency equalization technology to balance ping differences between teams.
Competitive Ranking Changes
Rank rewards now include the Blade Emerald Blade costume for reaching Gold. Diamond and Platinum players unlock new nameplate frames, while higher ranks get fresh Crests of Honor.
Team matchmaking rules became stricter. Bronze through Gold can queue in most team sizes except full five-stacks. Platinum, Diamond, and Grandmaster players are capped at three-person teams. The highest ranks (Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All) can only queue in duos.
Disconnect penalties got completely reworked. Invalid matches (disconnects in the first 70 seconds) end with no result for remaining players. Valid match disconnects now scale penalties based on timing, with compensation points for teammates when disconnected players don't return.
Performance and Technical Updates
PC players get shader compilation rework. The mandatory wait on first launch is gone, replaced by background preloading. The performance test tool now suggests graphics settings based on your results.
Console fixes address global keybind issues and improve audio cues for stealth characters like Black Panther and Wolverine. Spider-Man and Venom players can now set separate controls for simple versus manual web swinging.
Jump height standardization affects Emma Frost, Iron Fist, Phoenix, and Wolverine. All heroes now have identical jump heights after some were slightly higher than intended.
Event Timing and Context
The Queen's Codex launches while the Summer Special event still runs until August 15. Players can progress through multiple reward tracks simultaneously, though each requires separate advancement.
The Thing already has a Summer Special skin called Sunshine Thing featuring black swimsuit and Hawaiian lei. The new Symbiote Thing offers a darker alternative for players who prefer grittier aesthetics.
Twitch drops return from August 8 through September 5, featuring the Mantis Will of Galacta costume. This adds another free cosmetic option outside the main event structure.
Symbiote Theme Continuation
Season 3.5 builds on the symbiote aesthetic that proved popular in previous content. Jeff the Land Shark and Squirrel Girl symbiote variants received positive community response earlier in Season 3.
The narrative backdrop involves All-Black the Necrosword returning to Knull's possession after millennia. The Phoenix Egg has shattered, creating fragments that ignite across the planet Klyntar. Blade leads heroes in attempting to destroy Knull's throne and halt the King in Black's advance.
Resource Rumble Testing Approach
Resource Rumble debuts in Quick Match on August 22, 2025, before competitive integration. This staged rollout shows NetEase's cautious approach to major gameplay changes, allowing player feedback before ranked implementation.
The new game mode joins the existing rotation alongside traditional match types. Testing in Quick Match removes pressure while gathering data on balance and player reception.
Impact on Marvel Rivals Ecosystem
Season 3.5 represents one of Marvel Rivals' biggest content drops, bundling a new hero, event, map, and major system changes into one update. The permanent access model for premium events signals potential shifts toward player-friendly monetization.
Multiple content streams launch simultaneously on August 8: event start, hero release, and season transition. Players get immediate access to new progression systems without staggered releases creating gaps in available content.
Premium pass permanent access removes fear of missing out while maintaining purchase incentives. This approach could become standard for future events if player response proves positive during the Queen's Codex run.
