The Lorewalkers throw out every reputation system you've seen in World of Warcraft. You won't be doing daily quests, dungeon grinding, or mob farming. Instead, you earn reputation by exploring Pandaria and finding lore objects scattered across the continent.
You'll hunt down two types of objects: scrolls you can read and monuments you can examine. Each one you interact with contributes to specific achievements. Complete an achievement, and you unlock reputation rewards plus story content that brings Pandaria's history to life.
- Time to Exalted: 1-2 hours with flying mount
- No level requirements or prerequisites
- Achievement-based reputation system
- Available across all Pandarian zones
How the Lorewalkers Work
This Faction Is Different
The Lorewalkers faction operates on an achievement-based system rather than traditional quest grinding. Your reputation comes from completing achievements, not conventional quest chains. Each lore object belongs to a specific achievement category. Find all objects in that category, complete the achievement, and you'll get reputation two ways: immediate points for finishing the achievement, plus more points when you turn in the quest scroll that gets mailed to you.
Lorewalker Cho sends you a scroll through in-game mail every time you complete an achievement. You have to personally deliver these scrolls to the Seat of Knowledge to get the full reputation benefit and unlock the story content.
Time Investment
Reaching Exalted takes about one to two hours of focused effort. Your mount speed makes the biggest difference here. Flying mounts cut your completion time dramatically since many lore objects sit in elevated or hard to reach spots.
Ground mounts will stretch this out considerably. Flying mounts let you plot efficient routes and jump between zones quickly.
Zone Requirements
Lore objects exist in most Pandarian zones. You won't find any on the Isle of Giants or Timeless Isle, but everywhere else has multiple objects waiting to be discovered.
Any character can start collecting immediately. No level requirements, no prerequisite quests, no other faction standings needed. Some zones might need specific quest completions for initial access, but that's standard for those areas anyway.
The Story Behind the Faction
After the Pandaren Revolution, a Pandaren named Song spent his life spreading the teachings of rebel leader Kang. His mission inspired others to join him, eventually forming the Lorewalkers organization.
They maintain the Lorevault, protecting historical artifacts and keeping Pandaria's stories alive. Think of them as the continent's librarians, making sure important tales don't disappear forever.
Where to Find Everything
The Seat of Knowledge sits directly above Mogu'shan Palace dungeon in Vale of Eternal Blossoms. This is your home base for everything Lorewalkers related.
Lorewalker Cho handles the storytelling and quest turn-ins. He'll narrate every tale you uncover and accept your completed achievement scrolls. Tan Shin Tiao, the faction quartermaster, sells rewards from the same location once you've earned enough reputation.
The Seat of Knowledge is located at coordinates 82.2, 29.4 in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, positioned directly above the Mogu'shan Palace dungeon entrance. You can fly directly to the elevated platform or use internal passages within the palace to reach the upper levels.

Achievement Categories and Stories
The Seven Burdens of Shaohao
This achievement series follows Emperor Shaohao's spiritual journey to rid himself of negative emotions. The locations mark sites where Shaohao underwent dramatic trials. Many of these later became major temple locations throughout Pandaria.
Shaohao transformed from mortal emperor to transcendent figure. His journey culminated when he arrived at the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, where his presence caused the faded forest to bloom with new life. You'll need to visit multiple Emperor's Burden monuments across different zones.
Cultural Documentation
- Ballad of Liu Lang traces the adventures of the famous Pandaren explorer Liu Lang, documenting his travels and discoveries that expanded Pandaren knowledge of the world.
- Fish Tales chronicles Jinyu culture, their aquatic civilization, and how they interacted with other Pandarian species.
- Between a Saurok and a Hard Place documents how Mogu flesh-shapers created the Saurok and their subsequent rebellion against their creators.
- Heart of the Mantid Swarm explores Mantid society, their cyclical awakening patterns, and their relationship with ancient Old God influences.
- Hozen in the Mist records how the Hozen species evolved and developed culturally, including their linguistic capabilities and social structures.
Specialized Achievements
Legend of the Brewfathers works differently from other achievements. Instead of scrolls, you'll interact with three specific Brewfather Shrines that document the origins of Pandaren brewing traditions.
- The Dark Heart of the Mogu chronicles the rise and fall of the Mogu empire, their flesh-shaping abilities, and their oppressive rule over ancient Pandaria.
- The Song of the Yaungol documents the nomadic Yaungol culture, their territorial conflicts, and how they adapted to Pandaria's changing landscape.
- What Is Worth Fighting For explores the philosophical foundations of Pandaren martial arts and the principles that guide monastic traditions.
- Restore Balance is unique because it requires visiting the Shrine of Fellowship in The Jade Forest, following the path of famous brewmaster Chen Stormstout.
Quest Turn-ins and Story Content
Finding Lorewalker Cho
Lorewalker Cho operates from the Seat of Knowledge's main chamber, positioned above Mogu'shan Palace in Vale of Eternal Blossoms. He stands at the center of the circular platform overlooking the surrounding valley.
You can fly directly to the elevated platform or use internal passages within Mogu'shan Palace to reach the upper levels. The area stays accessible regardless of dungeon activity below.
How Story Presentations Work
When you turn in achievement related scrolls, Lorewalker Cho automatically starts narrating the corresponding story. You can't skip these presentations during the initial viewing, so you'll need patience as each tale unfolds completely.
These stories provide crucial context for the lore objects you discovered, weaving individual discoveries into complete historical narratives. Each presentation adds depth to your understanding of Pandarian culture, politics, and spiritual beliefs.
Managing Multiple Turn-ins
Multiple scroll turn-ins require waiting for each story presentation to finish before starting the next quest. There's a positioning trick that lets you do consecutive turn-ins: move to the balcony or fly a short distance from the palace to interrupt the current dialogue while still being able to interact with Lorewalker Cho for subsequent quests.
This technique lets you finish your reputation efficiently without missing story content, since you can return to hear any missed presentations anytime through dialogue options with Lorewalker Cho.
Navigation and Efficiency Tools
Using Coordinates
The provided coordinates let you navigate precisely to each lore object location. These coordinates work with various addon systems that provide waypoint marking and directional guidance.
TomTom and similar coordinate based addons significantly speed up the collection process by eliminating guesswork and providing ideal routing between locations. The Paste addon complements TomTom by letting you input bulk coordinates, so you don't have to manually enter each location.

Smart Route Planning
Efficient collection requires zone based routing rather than random exploration. Start with The Jade Forest and move systematically through adjacent zones to minimize travel time and ensure you don't miss anything.
Cave based locations need special attention since their entrance coordinates differ from the actual lore object positions. Plan these locations last within each zone to prevent backtracking when you miss surface objects.
Reputation Rewards and Shopping
Tan Shin Tiao - Your Quartermaster
The Lorewalkers quartermaster operates from the Seat of Knowledge alongside Lorewalker Cho. You'll find Tan Shin Tiao at coordinates 82.2, 29.4 within the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, ready to sell exclusive faction rewards once you reach appropriate reputation levels.

Unique red coloration and cloud-based design that sets it apart from standard flying mounts.
Main Rewards
- Disc of the Red Flying Cloud is the flagship reward that requires Exalted reputation and costs 600 gold. This mount provides unique visual appeal with distinctive red coloration and cloud based design that sets it apart from standard flying mounts.
- Lorewalkers Tabard becomes available at Exalted reputation for 10 gold. This tabard displays faction allegiance and provides no additional mechanical benefits beyond looking cool.
- Archaeological Tools come in two forms: the Lorewalker's Lodestone and Lorewalker's Map. Both require Exalted reputation and cost one Restored Artifact each. You get Restored Artifacts through archaeology activities involving Mogu and Pandaren artifacts.
- Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator is a specialized tool that requires Exalted reputation and costs one Mantid Artifact Hunter's Kit. This supports specific archaeological pursuits in Mantid territories.
Getting Restored Artifacts
Restored Artifacts come from completing Mogu and Pandaren archaeological discoveries. Common artifact completions provide a prompt to "Carefully crate the restored artifact," generating the currency you need for specific quartermaster purchases.
Additional Services and Bonuses
Brann Bronzebeard Exchange becomes available when you reach Friendly reputation. Brann trades previous expansion archaeology fragments, such as Crate of Nerubian Archaeology Fragments, for current Restored Artifacts.
Grand Commendation Benefits unlock at Revered reputation. The Grand Commendation of the Lorewalkers costs additional resources but provides 100% increased reputation gains for all characters on your account. This bonus speeds up the Revered to Exalted progression and significantly reduces alt character reputation requirements.
Advanced Tips and Strategies
Timeline Management for Vale of Eternal Blossoms
The Vale of Eternal Blossoms requires specific timeline access to locate lore objects. Zidormi, positioned within the zone, lets you switch between the current timeline and the Mists of Pandaria timeline. Only the Mists of Pandaria timeline contains the lore objects you need for reputation progress.
When operating in the Mists of Pandaria timeline, zone map visibility may be limited unless you're physically present within the zone boundaries. This limitation requires careful navigation and potentially advance planning for coordinate based travel.
Isle of Thunder Access
Isle of Thunder content stays locked behind quest completion requirements. "The Storm Gathers" quest, obtained from Scout Captain Elsia at the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes, must be completed before accessing the island's lore objects.
Once you finish the quest, a permanent portal appears near Scout Captain Elsia's location, providing ongoing access without repeating the initial quest requirements. This portal enables efficient return visits for lore object collection.
Flexible Collection Approaches
No predetermined order governs lore object collection, so you can personalize your approach based on character progression, zone preferences, or convenience factors. Collections can be integrated into leveling activities or completed as focused reputation sessions.
Gradual collection during normal gameplay spreads the time investment across multiple sessions, while focused completion enables rapid reputation advancement in concentrated timeframes. Both approaches yield identical results, so you can adapt to your individual play style and schedule.
- Fast completion time (1-2 hours)
- No daily quest grinding required
- Rich lore and story content
- Unique mount reward
- Account-wide reputation benefits
- Requires flying mount for efficiency
- Cave locations can be tricky to find
- No gear upgrades available
- Timeline mechanics for Vale access
- Isle of Thunder quest requirement
