The Tillers work differently than most WoW factions. You'll plant crops, give gifts to NPCs, and track individual friendship levels instead of just doing combat quests. This farming union is based in Halfhill in the Valley of the Four Winds, and you'll get your own farm at Sunsong Ranch.

Unlike most factions that just track your reputation, the Tillers run two separate systems. You've got standard faction rep with the union itself, plus individual friendship levels with ten different NPCs. Each friend has their own story, preferences, and rewards once you get close enough.

Before You Start Farming

Level Requirements
You can pick up the first quest at level 85, but don't expect much progress until you hit 90. Most of the good stuff gets locked behind max level requirements, so save yourself the frustration and wait. The daily quests, farming mechanics, and worthwhile rewards all open up once you're done leveling.

Cooking isn't required, but it makes everything way easier. Two cooking recipes are reputation gated here, making this faction pretty valuable if you're serious about food buffs.

Halfhill Market in Valley of the Four Winds
Halfhill Market serves as your main hub for all Tillers activities

Where Everything Happens

Halfhill Market

This is your main hub. Halfhill Market sits in the middle of Valley of the Four Winds and handles most quest turnins. Look for Gina Mudclaw in the red dress at coordinates 53.2, 51.8 - she's your quartermaster and sells all the faction rewards.

Sunsong Ranch

Your personal farm sits just north of Halfhill. You'll start with four plots and can expand to sixteen as your reputation grows. This becomes your daily stop once farming unlocks.

Dark Soil Spots

These special resource nodes appear all over Pandaria, but you'll find the most around Halfhill's farming areas. They drop friendship gifts that are crucial for building relationships with individual NPCs.

How Reputation Works

Reputation Tier Rep Required Total Rep Benefits
Neutral Starting Level 0 Basic quests available
Friendly 3,000 rep 3,000 Basic seeds unlock
Honored 6,000 more rep 9,000 8 farm plots, decorative seeds
Revered 12,000 more rep 21,000 12 plots, profession seeds
Exalted 21,000 more rep 42,000 16 plots, all rewards
Friendship System
Each of the ten NPCs also has their own friendship meter with six levels from Stranger (0 points) to Best Friend (42,999 points). This system runs parallel to faction reputation and unlocks unique farm decorations and rewards.

The Main Questline

Learning to Farm

Everything starts with Farmer Yoon at coordinates 52, 48 near the watermelon patch. The guy gets mocked for being a city boy trying to farm, but he's determined to honor his grandfather's legacy. You'll help him prove himself to the other farmers.

The intro chain teaches farming basics and nets decent reputation:

  • A Helping Hand: 900 rep
  • Learn and Grow I: Seeds: 500 rep
  • Learn and Grow II: Tilling and Planting: 500 rep
  • Learn and Grow III: Tending Crops: 500 rep
  • Learn and Grow IV: Harvesting: 700 rep
  • Learn and Grow V: Halfhill Market: Unlocks dailies
  • Learn and Grow VI: Gina's Vote: Wraps up the intro

Getting Union Votes

As your reputation increases, new questlines unlock around specific farmers. Each one involves growing certain crops and solving their problems.

Mung-Mung's Vote (around 5,500 Honored)

You'll need 2 Juicycrunch Carrots to start this three part series about hozen causing trouble and missing vegetables.

Farmer Fung's Vote (around 4,500 Revered)

Harvest 3 Green Cabbages to begin. This one deals with yak problems and ends with Fung going crazy for cabbage.

Nana Mudclaw's Vote (around 8,500 Revered)

Start by growing 3 Witchberries. Nana shares her secret recipes and you'll help protect some sacred springs.

Haohan Mudclaw's Vote (around 16,800 Revered)

The longest questline needs 4 Striped Melons to start. You'll investigate break-ins, catch criminals, and deal with poison plots across five different quests.

Daily Quest Routine

You can complete five daily quests for 1,075 total reputation:

Daily Quest Breakdown
Farmer Yoon's Planting Quest
350 reputation - Plant specific crops
Andi's Gift Run
150 reputation - Deliver gifts to NPCs
Two Visiting Farmer Quests
150 reputation each - Various tasks
Combat Quest
275 reputation - Requires flying mount

You'll also get 50 reputation for each crop you harvest at level 90, so check your farm daily.

Growing Crops

Farming follows a three step process. First, you till the soil and clear any weeds or pests. Then you plant seeds bought from Merchant Greenfield. Finally, you wait about 24 hours while dealing with any problems that pop up.

Crop Problems & Solutions
Infested: Use your Bug Sprayer
Tangled: Right-click and walk away
Runty: Right-click and jump
Alluring: Right-click and kill the bird that appears
Wiggling: Right-click and kill whatever's moving
Parched: Use your Watering Can
Smothered: Right-click and spam your action key
Wild: Right-click, spam action key, then hit key 2 when Vine Slam happens

Better Tools

As you progress through the union questline, Gina sells upgraded farming tools:

Farming Tools
Advanced Equipment Upgrades
"Jinyu Princess" Irrigation System
"Thunder King" Pest Repellers
"Earth-Slasher" Master Plow
Special Effects:

These tools allow you to work on multiple plots simultaneously instead of handling each one individually, dramatically speeding up your daily farming routine.

Sunsong Ranch farm layout
Your farm will expand from 4 plots to 16 as you gain reputation

What You Can Grow

Different seeds unlock as your reputation increases:

Reputation Level Available Seeds Benefits
Friendly Level Basic Vegetables Produces five units plus 0-3 extra seeds
Honored Level Autumn Blossom Saplings Decorative trees for your farm
Revered Level Profession Seeds Enigma, Magebulb, Raptorleaf, Snakeroot, Windshear, Songbell
Exalted Level Winter Blossom Saplings Completes your tree collection
Revered Seeds Are Gold Makers
Once you hit Revered, you can plant profession-focused seeds that drop valuable materials like Motes of Harmony, Ghost Iron Ore, Windwool Cloth, and enchanting materials. These make farming very profitable throughout MoP.

  • Focus on daily quests for steady reputation without too much time investment
  • Get cooking leveled to make food gifts easier
  • Prioritize friendships with NPCs who give practical rewards like Gina (mailbox) and Jogu (free predictions)
  • Don't stress about maxing everything immediately
Completionists
  • Set up daily routines covering all reputation activities and friendship gifts
  • Track individual NPC progress to time gift giving correctly
  • Level cooking alongside Tillers reputation for maximum efficiency
  • Plan efficient Dark Soil farming routes
Gold Farmers
  • Rush to Revered for the profitable profession seeds, especially Songbell Seeds
  • Get the advanced farming tools to maximize daily plot efficiency
  • Focus on Best Friends who give ongoing economic benefits
  • Prioritize Motes of Harmony production
Achievement Hunters
  • Work on both faction reputation and all friendships to unlock every achievement
  • Plan efficient resource gathering to minimize time investment
  • Coordinate Tillers progress with other Pandaren factions for the Ambassador achievement
  • Track all farming milestones systematically

Common Problems and Solutions

Slow Reputation Progress
Make sure you're doing all five daily quests and harvesting crops for the extra 50 reputation each. Use your Grand Commendation once you get it at Revered to double gains.
Friendship Grinding Tips
Map out efficient Dark Soil farming routes and stick to daily gift schedules. Match gifts to the right NPCs for maximum friendship points. Food gifts always give more friendship than treasure gifts.
Farming Troubles
Learn to identify and fix crop problems quickly. Keep your tools stocked and understand when upgrades become available. Set your graphics to low for easier Dark Soil spotting.
Resource Management
Plan sustainable gathering routines for cooking ingredients. Consider buying expensive materials from the auction house instead of farming everything yourself, especially fish and meat.
Advanced Strategies

This section covers advanced techniques for maximizing your Tillers reputation and friendship gains.

  • Dark Soil Optimization: Set graphics to low and farm in systematic patterns around Halfhill
  • Cooking Preparation: Level cooking early to make your own food gifts rather than buying them
  • Alt Coordination: Use the Grand Commendation account-wide bonus to speed up additional characters
  • Gold Making: Focus on Songbell Seeds at Revered for consistent Motes of Harmony income
