Blizzard has recently announced that Player Housing will be a new evergreen feature coming to World of Warcraft. Housing will have its own roadmap, leading into the future as a new pillar of the game, and players will never "finish" Player Housing, but will instead have new content and systems to look towards through The Worldsoul Saga and beyond.
Exterior Customization Overview
House exteriors are completely customizable. While the interior has an advanced 3D tool for customization, the exterior is more basic. To customize your exterior, you will choose a "kit." You interact with this kit much like you do the Barber Shop, picking the customizations that you want for your exterior from a menu.
Player Housing will launch with two exterior kits to choose from: Orc and Human. With the launch of World of Warcraft: Midnight, players will also be able to choose from Night Elf and Blood Elf kits. You can only use the Human, and Night Elf kits in the Alliance Neighborhood and you can only use the Orc and Blood Elf kits in the Horde Neighborhood. Note that this only applies to Outside appearance.
Once you have designed your house, you can use decor items to decorate your plot. Every house has a large, similarly sized plot, and you will be able to make your yard look just the way you want.
Exterior Housing Features
Once a kit has been selected, you will be able to select customizations, including:
| Customization Option | Description |
|---|---|
| House Type | Choose the overall architectural style of your home |
| House Size | Select from different size options for your dwelling |
| Base Style | Customize the foundation and base appearance |
| Roof Style | Pick from various roof designs and shapes |
| Roof Color | Change the color of your roof materials |
| Top Roof Fixtures | Add decorative elements to the top of your roof |
| Side Roof Fixtures | Attach ornamental pieces to the sides of your roof |
| Windows | Select window styles and arrangements |
| Wall Fixtures | Add decorative elements to your exterior walls |
Additional Housing Features
The playtesting produced several bits of information that players can look forward to:
- Location: Players can look forward to interesting plots of land—for example, Horde housing neighborhoods "won't just be dusty Durotar." Additionally, some homes are further from the centers of neighborhoods than others, allowing you to have more "private" lots where fewer players will pass by.
- Plot Size: All Player Houses will have similar outdoor plot size, whether you're on the outskirts of a neighborhood or right in the thick of things.
- Collection Integration: Eventually, players will be able to have a Stable for Mounts outside their home, and Pets can wander around to make things feel "lived in."
- Warband Integration: Discussions are still ongoing as to how player alt characters can integrate into Housing, or if they will be able to wander and lounge the same way Pets will.
Yard Customization Options
All available plots come with open yards that provide plenty of space for decorating. There's a huge variety of outdoor decor that can be unlocked and bought from vendors, allowing you to turn your space into a lush garden, a marketplace, a training pavilion, and so much more!
Yard customizations will include:
- Landscaping: Players will be able to landscape their plot with a variety of trees, bushes, and flowers. Additionally, custom walking paths can be created using differently shaped stones.
- Structures: Large structures like tents, platforms, and market stalls can be placed to create highly unique and themed areas.
- General Decor: While some pieces of decor can only be placed outdoors, most in-door pieces of furniture can be placed outside. Players will have a large range of decor items including everything from basic tables and chairs to goblin machinery.
- Lighting: Players can add string lights, candles, and lamps in a huge variety of styles to add an extra layer of ambience to their plots.
