Every competitive match in Valorant adjusts two separate ratings: Rank Rating (RR) and Matchmaking Rating (MMR). RR is the visible number that goes up when you win and down when you lose. MMR is a hidden value that Riot uses behind the scenes to measure your actual skill level and decide who you get matched against. These two numbers don't always agree. If your MMR sits higher than your visible rank, you'll gain more RR per win and lose less per defeat. Valorant's competitive ladder has nine tiers: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal, and Radiant. Each tier (except Radiant) splits into three divisions, and you need 100 RR to promote from one division to the next. When you reach a new tier's lowest division (like Silver 1 or Gold 1), you get two rank shields that protect you from immediately deranking back down on a loss at 0 RR. At the top end, Immortal removes the 100 RR cap entirely, and Radiant is limited to the top 500 players per region.
