Before You Start
Unlocking the Quest
Paving the Way came with the Cold Snap update, but you can't access it right away. You'll need to work through most of the existing quests in Arc Raiders before Apollo offers it to you. If you've been spending your time hunting Arc machines and fighting other players instead of doing story content, expect to grind through the earlier quest chain first.
Loadout Recommendations
You don't need to pick up or extract any items for this quest, and your progress saves automatically after each objective. Dying won't reset anything. Because of this, you can safely run free loadouts on both deployments.
What You're Doing
Paving the Way has you tracking down information about a missing researcher connected to ENELICA. The quest splits across two maps, so you'll need at least two deployments to finish it.
- First objective: Find any ENELICA building and grab a note from a notice board
- Second objective: Head to Buried City, climb to the top of an apartment building at Piazza Roma, then search the researcher's flat for data
ENELICA Building
About ENELICA
ENELICA seems to be some kind of corporation that operated facilities before everything went sideways. For this quest, you just need to find one of their branded buildings.
Where to Find ENELICA Buildings
These buildings exist on multiple maps:
- Dam Battlegrounds at Water Treatment Control (most recommended)
- Blue Gate near the Maintenance Bunker
- Buried City reportedly has one, though player reports suggest it's either hard to find or doesn't trigger the objective properly
Water Treatment Control
Most players hit Water Treatment Control on Dam Battlegrounds, and for good reason. The building shows up clearly on your map, Dam Battlegrounds is the easiest map in the game, and there's an extraction point (Water Treatment Elevator) right behind the building. You also need this same location for the A Toxic Trail quest from Shani, so you can knock out two objectives in one run.
Getting the Note
- Deploy to Dam Battlegrounds
- Head to Water Treatment Control
- Approach from the south to find the main entrance
- Look for ENELICA branding on the exterior wall to confirm you're in the right place
- Find the notice board near the main entrance
- Interact with the notice board to grab the researcher's note
- Extract at the Water Treatment Elevator right behind you
Blue Gate Alternative
You can also do this on Blue Gate. The ENELICA building near the Maintenance Bunker stands alone and you can spot it from a distance. Some players say this is actually the shortest route, though Dam Battlegrounds remains more popular because of its lower difficulty.
Researcher's Flat
Getting to Piazza Roma
After extracting, deploy to Buried City. You're heading to Piazza Roma, a marked location around the middle of the map. Look for two tall apartment buildings in the southern part of this area, sitting directly below the "Piazza Roma" text on your map.
The Convinio Mystery
Your objective mentions reaching "the top floor above the Convinio," but the game never explains what a Convinio actually is. Searching online doesn't help either. Just ignore this term and focus on finding the right buildings and climbing to the top.
Climbing Up
You've got a few options for reaching the top:
- Stairs: Enter through the front of the southern apartment building (just above the metro entrance in that area) and follow the stairs all the way up.
- Zipline: Depending on which building you approach, a zipline might get you to the upper floors.
- Elevator shafts: These provide an alternative route and can be useful when enemy patrols are blocking the stairs.
If you did the Unexpected Initiative quest earlier, this location should look familiar.
Watch for Enemies
Finding the Flat
Once you reach the top and the objective updates, you need to find the researcher's flat one floor below the roof.
From the rooftop:
- You'll notice two connected rooftops at different heights
- Drop down to the lower rooftop section
- Find the scrap bridge leading back into the building (it passes below the higher rooftop)
- Cross the bridge and go inside
- Continue straight through the next room
- Head into the room in the southeasternmost corner of the building
- Look for computer consoles and monitors against the wall - this lab-style setup marks the researcher's flat
- Interact with the terminal (look for the yellow marker) to grab the research data
That's it. Quest complete. Your progress gets sent back to Apollo automatically.
Getting Out
The metro extraction sits directly below the apartment complex. It's convenient, but be careful down there. Hostile players sometimes camp this spot and ambush Raiders trying to leave. Check your corners, call in the train, and stay alert until you're out.
Rewards
Finishing Paving the Way gets you:
Nothing game-changing, but solid value for a quest you can run with free loadouts.
Running This Efficiently
Combining Quests
Water Treatment Control is also required for A Toxic Trail from Shani. If you have both quests active, do them during the same Dam Battlegrounds deployment.
Keeping Losses Low
Free loadouts work fine for both parts of this quest. Plan your extraction routes before you engage with objectives, and save your careful play for Buried City, which sees more traffic and has nastier patrol patterns. The Dam Battlegrounds portion is relatively safe.
Don't Worry About Deaths
What Comes Next
Completing Paving the Way unlocks A Toxic Trail if you haven't started it already. That quest also uses Water Treatment Control, so finishing the ENELICA objective on Dam Battlegrounds sets you up nicely for continued progress.
