Embark Studios has delivered one of 2025's most successful game launches with ARC Raiders. The extraction shooter hit the market on October 30th and generated massive commercial success in just over a week.
The game has moved more than 4 million units across all platforms worldwide, according to Nexon. Sales span Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Epic Games Store, and GeForce NOW.
700,000 Players Online Simultaneously
ARC Raiders peaked at over 700,000 simultaneous players across all platforms during the past weekend. Embark Studios confirmed the milestone on X roughly one week after launch.
Steam alone hit 462,000 concurrent players, breaking the game's previous record from the weekend before. That platform number represents about two-thirds of the total cross-platform peak. Adding Epic Games Store players means PC gamers make up the overwhelming majority of ARC Raiders' audience, significantly outnumbering PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players combined.
Built by Battlefield Veterans
Embark Studios was founded by Battlefield franchise veterans who also made The Finals. ARC Raiders blends extraction shooter mechanics with more welcoming design than typical genre entries.
The game combines PvP combat, resource collection, and high-stakes decision-making under constant pressure from hostile robots called ARC machines. These mechanical enemies roam the map and escalate danger the longer players stay in a match. The variety ranges from football-sized threats to massive machines that can flatten players instantly. Aerial drones add another layer of danger.
Anyone familiar with Escape from Tarkov will recognize the core loop. ARC Raiders prioritizes accessibility over hardcore mechanics with faster learning curves and less punishing systems than traditional extraction shooters.
Players Are Cooperating More Than Fighting
ARC Raiders carries the PvPvE label but features surprisingly cooperative player interactions, especially in solo queues. Players report extended sessions with minimal deaths from other players. Combat between humans happens far less often than the genre typically demands.
Random acts of cooperation define much of the experience. Strangers hold elevators for each other, team up against ARC machines without prior coordination, and respond positively when asked for help. These moments create spontaneous community interactions that many players associate with Xbox 360 era lobbies.
Embark Studios acknowledged this behavior in their 700,000 concurrent player announcement: "The many different ways you play and participate in ARC Raiders have completely blown us away, going far beyond what we ever imagined. You surprise us, you outsmart us, and you keep us on our toes. We wouldn't have it any other way."
The developer added: "The point being, you all push us to be better, and we're truly grateful to have you along for this journey."
Content Pipeline Starts Immediately
Nexon maintains a strategic investment in Embark Studios and published ARC Raiders. CEO Junghun Lee responded to the sales figures with enthusiasm about future support.
"We are deeply impressed by the enthusiasm of the player community for this game, and with our content plan, including new maps, ARC machines, weapons, and quests, which will be implemented starting this month, we are excited to announce that we will be able to continue our work with the new maps, ARC machines, weapons, quests, and other content plans. We will strive to further enhance the excitement," Lee stated.
November brings a new map, community event, additional enemy types, fresh quests, and more items. December continues the cadence with a snow-based map condition, more events, and a battle pass containing new quests and progression rewards. This schedule demonstrates Embark's plan to maintain engagement through consistent content drops.
Competing with the Big Names
ARC Raiders entered a crowded shooter market but quickly carved out significant space. The combination of 4 million sales, 700,000 concurrent players, and positive community sentiment suggests the game could challenge Call of Duty and Battlefield faster than anyone predicted.
The $40 price point undercuts many premium competitors without sacrificing production quality. Launch day availability on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Epic Games Store, and GeForce NOW maximized potential reach.
Server Strain and Stability
Weekend server struggles have occurred, though player counts continue climbing. The infrastructure has supported the 700,000 concurrent player milestone, showing that Embark has scaled capacity to handle the influx.
Crossplay functionality works across all platforms. This foundation supports the spontaneous cooperative moments that have become part of the game's identity.
Can It Last?
ARC Raiders has established a foundation with 4 million sales and consistent player engagement. Maintaining momentum requires execution on content promises, server stability, and community management.
The November and December roadmap represents Embark's immediate retention strategy. New maps, enemies, events, and battle pass content need to keep players engaged. The developer's acknowledgment that player behavior has exceeded expectations suggests flexibility in adapting to community feedback.
ARC Raiders occupies a unique position as an accessible extraction shooter. The genre typically intimidates newcomers with harsh mechanics and steep learning curves. By lowering barriers to entry while maintaining depth, Embark may attract and retain players who would normally avoid extraction shooters.
The balance between PvP risk and cooperative potential creates experiences that feel distinct from pure combat-focused competitors. If Embark delivers on promised content while maintaining this dynamic, ARC Raiders has positioned itself for sustained success in a competitive market.
