Diablo 4's boss system splits endgame encounters into three tiers: Initiate, Greater, and Exalted. All bosses
are free to fight, but the real rewards sit inside Hoard chests that only open with the correct Lair Boss Key.
Each player in a group needs their own keys to claim loot, so you can't rely on someone else footing the bill.
Initiate bosses include Varshan (Malignant Heart, 12 per Hoard), Grigoire (Living Steel, 12 per Hoard),
Beast in the Ice (Distilled Fear, 12 per Hoard), Lord Zir (Exquisite Blood, 12 per Hoard), and Urivar
(Judicator's Mask). These fights also have a chance to drop Stygian Stones, a universal currency you can
convert at the Alchemist into any Greater Lair Boss Key of your choice.
Greater bosses like Duriel (Shard of Agony, 3 per Hoard) and Andariel (Pincushioned Doll, 3 per Hoard)
sit higher on the boss ladder and drop better Uniques along with Mythic Uniques at improved rates. The Exalted
tier features Belial, whose Hoard costs just 2 Betrayer's Husks and lets you pick which boss's loot table to
roll from. For players targeting specific Mythic Uniques from Duriel or Andariel, stocking up on D4 summoning
materials before a farming session saves significant time and keeps your runs consistent.
