Marvel Rivals Season 8: Sins of Alchemax goes live on May 15, 2026 at 9 AM UTC, and NetEase Games has confirmed a full balance overhaul across all three roles. The patch arrives alongside Devil Dinosaur, the season's new Vanguard hero. Cyclops is also on the way, with his release expected to follow in the Season 8.5 update scheduled for June 2026.
A new Battle Pass, fresh hero skins, and a new Team-Up ability pairing Devil Dinosaur with The Punisher arrive at launch. An existing Team-Up also picks up an expanded operational range.
Lead combat designer Zhiyong laid out the season's direction in the latest Dev Vision. He explained that Season 8 is built to create far more opportunities to initiate attacks and break through enemy formations when Vanguards clash in the frontlines.
That intent runs through the patch notes. The changes favor heavier frontline brawling, active repositioning, and a slight pullback on passive utility stacking from Strategists.
The full breakdown of every confirmed hero change follows below, alongside the new and adjusted Team-Up abilities.
Vanguard Changes: Three Heroes Affected
Three Vanguards are getting touched in this patch. NetEase focused on survivability and sustained frontline pressure, with one heavy nerf balancing out two notable buffs.
Emma Frost (Buffed)
The White Queen picks up the biggest Vanguard upgrade in the patch. NetEase framed the changes as boosting her diamond hard survivability for a stronger, longer presence on the frontline.
Three separate adjustments stack together:
- Telepathic Pulse falloff now begins 4 seconds after not hitting an enemy, up from 3 seconds.
- Mind's Aegis reposition cooldown drops from 3 seconds to 1 second.
- Damage Reduction during Diamond Form and Psionic Seduction (her Ultimate) climbs from 20% to 25%.
The combined effect cements Emma Frost as one of the game's top frontline brawlers entering the new season.
The Thing (Buffed)
Ben Grimm gets a simple but meaningful survivability bump. NetEase positioned it as helping him soak up more pressure during prolonged frontline brawls.
- Base health increases from 700 to 750.
That extra 50 HP doesn't sound dramatic on paper. For a hero whose entire job is staying in the enemy's face, though, it means one or two extra trades before he needs support.
Deadpool (Nerfed)
Wade Wilson's dominance across ranked and pro play has earned him another round of nerfs. NetEase said they're putting a tiny leash on his damage output while keeping his chaotic energy intact.
Both his sustain and his damage in gun form take hits:
- The Ban Hammer (Gun Form Ultimate) healing while active drops from 50 per second to 25 per second.
- Dual Desert Eagles single shot damage falls from 36 to 34 in standard form, and from 42 to 39 in upgraded form.
Halving his sustain during Ban Hammer is the biggest change here. It removes the main reason Vanguard Deadpool was so difficult to punish during his ultimate.
Duelist Changes: Eight Heroes Affected
Season 8's Duelist adjustments mostly focus on improving combat flow and offensive consistency, with a few frustrating mechanics getting toned down. Most Duelists come out ahead, while one hero takes a mixed adjustment that trades crowd control for direct damage.
Iron Fist (Buffed)
Lin Lie is getting better combo potential and faster defensive cycling. NetEase described the changes as sharpening his martial arts to boost his burst potential and smooth out his combos when diving the enemy lines.
- Jeet Kune Do hits now reduce the cooldown of Dragon's Defense by 1.2 seconds per hit, up from 1 second.
- K'un-Lun Kick first strike damage increases from 35 to 40.
The cooldown change rewards consistent hits, meaning Dragon's Defense comes back faster the more aggressively a player engages.
Mister Fantastic (Adjusted)
Reed Richards gets a mixed adjustment that pulls power out of his crowd control and pushes it into raw combat output. NetEase said his control was getting too oppressive, prompting the trade.
- Stretch Punch damage increases from 65 to 70.
- Flexible Elongation no longer applies a Movement Speed reduction.
- Flexible Elongation charge time per use drops from 8 seconds to 6 seconds.
- Brainiac Bounce (Ultimate) energy cost falls from 3400 to 3100.
Removing the slow continues the recent trend of pulling back on frustrating crowd control. The compensating buffs give him stronger uptime and more flexibility across team fights.
Moon Knight (Buffed)
Khonshu's chosen gets a small but useful mobility tune up.
- Moonlight Hook cooldown drops from 15 seconds to 12 seconds.
Three seconds shaved off a movement ability matters a lot for a hero who relies on positioning to land Khonshu's wrath.
Phoenix (Adjusted)
Jean Grey gets one of the more important Duelist adjustments. NetEase is cutting her explosive AoE potential while making her baseline output more reliable.
- Cosmic Flames direct hit damage increases from 50 to 55.
- Spark mark explosion damage falls from 40 to 35.
Spider-Man (Buffed)
Spidey's ultimate gets noticeably deadlier.
- Spectacular Spin damage per spherical Spell Field increases from 13.6 to 15.
- Total damage over the full 2.4 second duration rises from 408 to 450.
Grouped enemies caught inside the full duration are going to feel this change.
Squirrel Girl (Buffed)
Doreen picks up a straightforward cooldown reduction. NetEase playfully described the change as "nutty."
- Mammal Bond cooldown drops from 15 seconds to 12 seconds.
More frequent uptime on one of her key abilities counts as a real quality of life win.
Star-Lord (Buffed)
Peter Quill gets more sustained firepower.
- Element Guns ammo capacity increases from 40 to 50.
A larger magazine lets Star-Lord players keep pressure on for longer before reloading mid fight.
Wolverine (Buffed)
Logan's healing factor will fire more often.
- Regenerative Healing Factor trigger cooldown drops from 105 seconds to 90 seconds.
The change gives Wolverine more chances to throw himself back into the fray over the course of a match.
Strategist Changes: Five Heroes Affected
After the ultimate economy adjustments introduced in Season 7.5, NetEase is fine tuning how much passive value Strategists can generate while keeping their distinct identities intact. The changes break down to two nerfs, one buff, and two mixed adjustments.
Invisible Woman (Nerfed)
Sue Storm finally takes a direct cut to her crowd control utility. NetEase cited the goal of pulling back on the baseline utility of Strategist compositions.
- Force Physics push distance drops from 12 meters to 10 meters.
- Force Physics damage falls from 55 to 50.
Loki (Adjusted)
The God of Mischief is leaning further into support over damage. His illusions will heal more reliably, but they'll hit less hard in return.
- Illusion Mystical Missile healing ratio increases from 90% to 100%.
- Illusion Mystical Missile damage ratio drops from 90% to 80%.
- God of Mischief (Ultimate) energy cost rises from 4300 to 4500.
The small ultimate cost increase is the tradeoff for stronger healing output through his illusions.
Mantis (Nerfed)
Mantis takes a real nerf to her damage amplification, swapping raw damage boost for a new repositioning effect.
- Allied Inspiration damage boost to allies drops from 12% to 8%.
- Allied Inspiration now also provides a flat 100 Movement Speed Boost to allies.
Even with the new speed component, the 4% damage amplification loss hurts burst focused team comps that previously leaned on her.
Rocket Raccoon (Buffed)
Rocket quietly walks away with one of the strongest all around buff packages in the patch. NetEase confirmed he'll be putting out more damage, tossing out more heals, and dropping his Ultimate faster.
- Bombard Mode hit damage per projectile increases from 16 to 17.
- Repair Mode charges increase from 8 to 10.
- C.Y.A. (Ultimate) energy cost falls from 4300 to 4000.
Stronger damage, more healing resources, and faster ultimates add up to far more total uptime during team fights.
White Fox (Adjusted)
Ami Han's healing gets redistributed for better consistency. NetEase positioned the change as refining her Kumiho magic to provide more reliable healing whether she's locked in combat or disengaged.
- Fox Form Awakening aura healing increases from 25 per second to 35 per second.
- Burst healing per successful attack during Fox Form Awakening drops from 35 to 25.
- Blessed by the Nine healing to allies during Kumiho Unleashed (Ultimate) climbs from 40 per second to 60 per second.
In a developer note, NetEase explained that White Fox's healing in Fox Form Awakening was too high when she could continuously attack enemies, but too low when she couldn't maintain targets. The change slightly lowers her peak burst healing when spamming attacks, going from 100 per second down to 90 per second, while significantly boosting her passive aura when no targets are available.
Team-Up Ability Changes
Season 8 brings one entirely new Team-Up alongside an adjustment to an existing partnership.
Primal Punishment (Devil Dinosaur and The Punisher), New
Primal Punishment is easily one of the most visually striking Team-Ups Marvel Rivals has shipped so far. Devil Dinosaur acts as the Team-Up Anchor, with The Punisher as the rider.
NetEase set up the partnership with a clear premise: a prehistoric apex predator and a vigilante with an arsenal, with Frank Castle saddling up for the ride of a lifetime.
The mechanics work like this:
- Devil Dinosaur gains 100 Bonus Health as the Team-Up Anchor.
- The Punisher unlocks the Ancient Judgement ability through the Team-Up.
- After accepting the interaction prompt, The Punisher can mount Devil Dinosaur.
- While mounted, The Punisher can only use his normal attacks and his short grenade ability. Other abilities become temporarily unavailable.
- The Punisher gains damage reduction while mounted.
- A percentage of all damage taken and healing received by The Punisher while mounted gets shared directly with Devil Dinosaur. Healing from Strategists directed at The Punisher transfers to Devil Dinosaur as well.
Chilling Assault (Luna Snow + Emma Frost + Iron Fist), Adjusted
The icy trio's operational range is expanding. Luna Snow acts as the Anchor Hero alongside Emma Frost and Iron Fist.
- Iced Out Diamond Spell Field radius increases from 9 meters to 12 meters.
- Barrier placement distance extends to match the new 12 meter radius.
The change makes the Team-Up much easier to land effectively during chaotic frontline engagements.
Meta Implications: How Season 8 Reshapes the Battlefield
The Deadpool nerfs stand out as the most impactful change on the competitive side. His sustain during Ban Hammer was a major reason he dominated Vanguard matchups, and halving that healing while also cutting his base damage makes him far easier to punish.
Emma Frost benefits directly from that shift. Her buffs push her toward a much more reliable frontline alternative.
The Mantis nerf changes team composition math in ranked play. Losing 4% damage amplification is significant in burst windows, and while the movement speed buff has real value for positioning and kiting, it doesn't translate into the same kill potential.
Teams may give Rocket Raccoon a harder look as a Strategist pick after his triple buff this season.
For Duelists, both Iron Fist and Moon Knight gain tools that reward aggressive play. The Spider-Man ultimate damage bump is small on its own, but it adds to a string of other buffs he has picked up across recent patches.
Devil Dinosaur's arrival, paired with the Primal Punishment Team-Up, signals NetEase's clear push toward more aggressive frontline engagements. Combined with The Thing's health buff and Emma Frost's survivability upgrades, the Vanguard role looks ready to drive much of the action in Season 8.
