Battlefield 6 Season 2 won't arrive until February 17, 2026. The new season was originally scheduled for January 20, but EA and Battlefield Studios confirmed the delay in a blog post this week, citing a need to "further polish and refine" the upcoming content based on community feedback.

A Season 1 extension update will take its place on the original launch date.

Battlefield Studios Responds to Criticism

"During our ongoing development, we've continued to review community feedback and, in order to keep our promise, determined that our best path forward is to extend Season 1 and give ourselves extra time to further polish and refine Season 2," the developer stated.

A brief teaser accompanied the announcement. The clip runs just seven seconds, showing a gas mask emerging from green smoke, but that's all players are getting for now. More details are expected in February, with a "greater 2026 roadmap" for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC promised "in the near future."

Battlefield Labs will also take on a bigger role as a public testing ground for updates in late development.

Season 1 Extension Content

Players get several additions to tide them over until Season 2 arrives, starting with the January 20 update. The Frostfire Bonus Path is the main attraction, launching January 27.

Free rewards include a Hardware XP Boost, Vehicle Skin, and playercard items. Battle Pass owners get access to a new Weapon Package, Soldier Skin, Career XP Boost, and extra customization options on top of that.

Completing the Frostfire track requires 110 Bonus Path points. Progress runs alongside the main Season 1 Battle Pass, with points earned through weekly challenges instead of the Bonus Challenges used in previous paths.

A Valentine's Day event is also planned, featuring double XP weekends and daily login rewards. Portal community experience showcases and balance tweaks round out the extension. Patch notes will drop before the January 20 release.

Record Launch, Rapid Decline

Battlefield 6 crushed it at launch, selling over seven million copies in its first three days after releasing on October 10, 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It topped the sales charts as the number one game of 2025.

That momentum hasn't lasted. Player counts have dropped sharply in early 2026, while ARC Raiders has held onto most of its launch audience months later.

Player Complaints Mount

Players haven't been shy about their frustrations. Maps get criticized constantly for being too small, making matches feel cramped and chaotic. Content since launch has felt thin, and the progression system gets called out for being grindy without enough payoff.

Technical problems have piled on. Lag and hit registration issues persist, and some Season 1 patches reportedly made the netcode even worse.

Battle Pass Controversy
One Steam review with over 450 "helpful" votes called the Battle Pass "extremely predatory" with "so much FOMO stuff that it becomes more stressful than fun." Controversy around EA's alleged use of generative AI material has added to the negative reviews.

Season 1 delivered the surprise REDSEC battle royale launch, two new maps through the California Resistance and Rogue Ops updates, and the Winter Offensive event on December 9 with snowy map variants.

What's Next

Season 2 details are still thin beyond that gas mask teaser. Datamined info points to a new vehicle and weapons, though nothing's been confirmed.

"Moving forward together, we look forward to continuing our conversations with you, the Battlefield community, both in-game and across our official channels," Battlefield Studios wrote. "Again, thank you for being a part of our community and joining us for the future of this franchise, starting with our next update on January 20, 2026."
