Unlike Military camos, Special camos are universal once earned and can be applied to any weapon that has reached the Special tier in at least one mode.

With both Military and Special camos completed for a weapon, the Mastery tier becomes available. Mastery camos must be unlocked in sequence, with each tier building on the previous one. Some Mastery challenges are weapon-specific, while higher tiers require class-wide or roster-wide completion before progressing further.

Warzone features multiple sets of mastery camos tied to different Call of Duty integrations, each with four tiers of increasing difficulty and visual impact.

The first mastery tier awards a gold-themed camo for individual weapons upon completing a specific challenge after clearing all base camos. Gold Tiger (from the Black Ops 6 integration) requires eliminations while being the Most Wanted contract target, while Golden Damascus (from Black Ops 7) requires scoring multiple kills in a single match across several games. Both serve as the entry point to the mastery grind.

The second tier unlocks after earning the first mastery camo for every weapon in a class (all assault rifles, all SMGs, etc.). King's Ransom and Starglass sit at this level, demanding kill streaks without dying across multiple matches. Reaching this point proves consistency with an entire weapon category, not just one favorite gun.

The third tier raises the bar further. Catalyst and Absolute Zero both require the previous tier completed on a large number of weapons (typically 30+), then add their own challenge on top of that. Catalyst demands kills on enemies impaired by tactical equipment, while Absolute Zero requires eliminations while placing in the Top 10.

The final mastery camo in each set (Abyss and Apocalypse) is the ultimate prize. These animated, reactive skins auto-unlock once the third tier is completed across all base weapons, making them the rarest camos in Warzone and a clear sign that every weapon in the game has been fully mastered.

The time investment for Warzone camos is significantly higher than its Multiplayer or Zombies equivalents, and the reasons go beyond simple kill counts. Battle royale pacing creates natural bottlenecks that slow challenge completion in ways that other modes don't.

In Multiplayer, you can respawn instantly and rack up dozens of kills per match on small, fast-paced maps. Warzone doesn't offer that luxury. Standard Battle Royale gives you one life per match, meaning a single bad drop can waste an entire game's worth of potential challenge progress. Even in respawn-friendly modes like Resurgence or Plunder, the pace of engagements is slower than a dedicated Multiplayer lobby.

Mastery challenges compound the problem. Objectives like "get eliminations while being the Most Wanted target" or "get kills while in the Top 10" force you into high-risk gameplay situations that conflict with each other. Playing aggressively for Most Wanted kills might get you eliminated early, while surviving into the Top 10 means playing cautiously and limiting engagements. Balancing these competing demands across every weapon in the game is what turns a long grind into a massive one.

The class-wide and roster-wide gates at higher tiers add another layer. You can't just master your favorite AR and move on. Second-tier camos require the first tier completed for every weapon in a class, and third-tier camos need completion across 30+ weapons. That means grinding through launchers, melee weapons, and pistols with the same intensity as primary weapons, even though those categories are far harder to use in a battle royale setting.
