They know which zones produce the right conditions, which loadouts reduce risk, and how to avoid the PvP encounters that derail progress. You collect permanent cosmetic rewards without burning evenings on runs that collapse to bad timing or a hostile third party. Marathon's Feats of Mastery fall into distinct categories that test different aspects of your skill on Tau Ceti IV. Economic milestones like Profiteer require accumulating an account value of at least one million credits through consistent successful extractions. Gear-specific feats like Four Barrels demand you exfil with WSTR Combat Shotguns in both weapon slots, locking you into a restricted loadout for that entire run. Situational feats push further. Crawling In requires extracting while downed, meaning you reach an exfil point after being knocked down without a teammate reviving you. Runners Never Die asks you to get eliminated, rebooted by a crewmate, then successfully extract from that same deployment. Diplomat requires VIP rank with all six factions simultaneously, a grind spanning weeks of contract work across CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, Arachne, and Sekiguchi. Prestigious asks you to extract carrying a Prestige Valuable, one of the rarest and most hunted item types on any map. Each completed feat rewards a unique cosmetic through the Codex, from backgrounds and emblems to titles displayed under your Runner ID.

Marathon runs on a seasonal model where Bungie resets nearly everything every three months. Gear, vaulted loot, contract progress, faction upgrades, and player level all get wiped at the start of each new season, and every Runner begins fresh with no carried-over advantages. Achievements are one of the few exceptions. Completed Feats of Mastery, the cosmetics they unlock, and your Codex progression all persist permanently across seasons. Titles, profile backgrounds, and emblems earned through mastery challenges carry forward while virtually everything else disappears. That permanence makes Feats of Mastery some of the most valuable long-term progress in Marathon. When faction upgrades and gear vanish every few months, a completed achievement and its cosmetic reward stand as lasting proof of what you pulled off in previous seasons.
