Marvel Rivals Season 7.5 goes live on April 17, and NetEase has published the full balance rundown ahead of launch. The patch lands alongside Dev Vision Vol. 16, confirms Black Cat as the newest Duelist, and introduces one of the biggest systemic changes the game has seen since it launched.
Eleven heroes are getting direct adjustments. One existing Team-Up is being toned down, and a brand new Team-Up ability arrives with Black Cat. There's also a new Chain CC Protection mechanic that applies to the entire roster and will almost certainly reshape how crowd control is valued in ranked lobbies.
Below is the full breakdown of what's changing when Season 7.5 drops.
Chain CC Protection Arrives
The headline change in Season 7.5 isn't tied to any single hero. NetEase is rolling out a new Chain CC (Crowd Control) Protection system to stop players from getting stun locked into a respawn screen by coordinated CC comps. It's arguably the biggest systemic shift the game has received since launch.
The mechanic works like this:
- The trigger: Chain CC Protection kicks in when a hero either absorbs 5.5 seconds of total CC duration or gets hit by 6 separate CC effects inside a 7 second window. Once it triggers, every active CC effect on that hero gets purged, and they gain 30% Tenacity for 3 seconds.
- Scaling Tenacity: Tenacity is a new status that proportionally cuts the duration of any incoming CC. Every additional CC effect that lands while Tenacity is active adds another 10% and extends the buff by 0.5 seconds.
- Total immunity: If Tenacity climbs to 100%, the hero becomes fully CC Immune for the rest of the buff. At that point, further CC effects stop adding Tenacity and stop extending the immunity window.
- Cinematic exceptions: Some animation driven CC abilities are exempt from the system. Emma Frost's Carbon Crush and Monster Hulk's World Breaker are specifically called out. Tenacity won't shorten their duration, and Chain CC Protection won't interrupt them mid animation. Any standard CC that lands during one of these cinematics gets cleared, and Tenacity is applied, only after the ability finishes.
- Cooldown: The system has a 5 second cooldown that starts ticking from the moment the last Tenacity effect expires.
The change has been a long time coming. CC heavy compositions had become increasingly oppressive at the top of the ladder, and this is a direct response to that.

Vanguard Adjustments
Three Vanguards are seeing changes in Season 7.5. They range from a direct buff for Emma Frost to a pointed set of nerfs for TankPool.
Emma Frost
The White Queen gets a straightforward boost to her suppression power. Her Ultimate becomes cheaper to charge, which means more frequent uptime on one of the strongest suppression tools in the game.
- Psionic Seduction (Ultimate Ability) energy cost reduced from 3400 to 3100.
Deadpool
Vanguard pool is getting dialed back on both burst damage and the survivability he picks up from his gun form Ultimate. The attack speed bonus from his aura ability also takes a cut.
- The Ban Hammer (Gun Form Ultimate Ability) Bonus Health gained per hammer hit reduced from 80 to 60 (standard) and from 80 to 70 (upgraded).
- The Ban Hammer (Gun Form Ultimate Ability) damage per hammer hit reduced from 45 to 35.
- Bonus Attack Speed provided by Deadpool in Your Area (Vanguard) to Dual Desert Eagles (Vanguard) reduced from 60% to 40%.
Peni Parker
Peni is being pushed more firmly into a positional identity. Her base survivability comes down, but her Cyber Web deployment range and protection both go up, and the hit feel of her Primary Attack is getting improved as well. NetEase's stated goal is to let her cover more ground with Cyber Webs and flexibly use their support effects to handle dive comps.
- Base health reduced from 700 to 650.
- Maximum simultaneous Cyber Webs on the field increased from 3 to 4.
- Bonus Health cap provided to Peni by Cyber Webs increased from 150 to 200.
- Cyber Web Cluster Projectile Speed increased from 120m/s to 150m/s.
Duelist Adjustments
Three Duelists are getting touched this patch. Two are picking up nerfs, and Human Torch's Plasma Body is being reworked rather than tuned up or down.
Elsa Bloodstone
Elsa's mobility and her percentage damage against tankier heroes were both flagged as too strong. The patch hits both.
- Helix Advance cooldown increased from 8s to 10s (cooldown at max passive stacks increased from 2s to 4s).
- Monster Piercer percentage damage per pellet reduced from 1.2% to 0.8%.
- Total percentage damage when all 5 pellets hit reduced from 6% to 4%.
Designer Zhiyong included a note on the impact. When all pellets connect, damage against a 275 HP hero drops from 81.5 (13x5 + 275x6%) to 76, and against a 700 HP hero it drops from 107 (13x5 + 700x6%) to 93.
Human Torch
Torch isn't getting a direct buff or nerf. His Plasma Body mechanic is being reworked into a two charge burst mobility tool, giving him sharper movement at the cost of making his patterns a little more predictable for opponents.
- Plasma Body mechanic adjusted: on cast, he immediately dashes 10m in the direction of movement and enters the Plasma Body state for 4 seconds.
- The ability now has 2 charges, with a 10 second recharge time per charge.
- There is a 4 second cooldown between consecutive casts.
Winter Soldier
NetEase openly said Bucky had been leaning too heavily on CC, feeling more like a "bodyguard" than a lethal operative, especially when facing dive Vanguards, Duelists, or anchor Vanguards. The patch trims his lockdown kit and pushes a bit more of his budget into frontal damage.
- Trooper's Fist Grounded effect on enemies removed.
- Trooper's Fist cooldown reduced from 12s to 10s.
- Bionic Hook cooldown increased from 12s to 15s.
- Roterstern Projectile Damage increased from 75 to 80.
- Spell Field Damage decreased from 55 to 45.
- Tainted Voltage single charge energize time reduced from 6s to 5s.
- Kraken Impact Culling Threshold increased from 15% to 20%.
- Base damage reduced from 80 to 70.
Strategist Adjustments
The Strategist role is seeing the most activity this patch. Five heroes are getting changes, and most of them come out ahead. Cloak & Dagger and Jeff are the only clear losers of the group.
Adam Warlock
A small cosmic boost to Adam's healing loop. More frequent cooldown reduction on Avatar Life Stream means more consistent healing output across a fight.
- Cosmic Cluster cooldown reduction provided to Avatar Life Stream per hit on an enemy increased from 0.05s to 0.08s.
Cloak & Dagger
A direct nerf to the duration of their Ultimate. Two seconds doesn't sound like much on paper, but at the highest level of play, it'll be more than noticeable.
- Eternal Bond (Ultimate Ability) duration reduced from 13s to 11s.
Jeff the Land Shark
Jeff's long range backline pressure is being trimmed, though his Ultimate picks up a small quality of life improvement for missed swallows.
- Joyful Splash damage falloff now starts at 15m (was 20m) and drops to 60% of base damage at 30m (was 65% at 40m).
- It's Jeff! (Ultimate Ability) recovery time when failing to swallow any targets reduced from 1s to 0.4s.
Luna Snow
A modest stat bump to Luna's base combat capabilities. Both her damage and healing output go up.
- Light & Dark Ice damage and healing increased from 22 to 24.
Ultron
Ultron's Ultimate is getting a full rework in Season 7.5, and it's one of the most significant hero specific changes in the patch. The four Ultron Drones that surround him during his Ultimate no longer shoot directly at the crosshair target. They now bombard the area around the target instead, with a coverage area that matches Ultron's own but slightly lower values. The result is a coverage radius on Rage of Ultron that effectively doubles from 3m to 6m.
After activating Rage of Ultron:
- Ultron's Encephalo Rays Damage increased from 8 to 18.
- Drones' Encephalo Rays Damage increased from 8 to 12.
- New Spell Field Damage Falloff: starts at 1.5m after Encephalo Rays explode, with a max falloff to 50% at 3m.
- Healing effect on allies increased from 25 to 40.
- Damage and healing effects on targets within the original 3m radius stay roughly the same.
Team-Up Ability Changes
One existing Team-Up is being toned down, and Black Cat's debut brings a brand new one into the mix.
Adjusted: Guardian of the Deep (Venom + Jeff the Land Shark / Hela)
NetEase felt the excess healing to bonus health conversion in this Team-Up had gotten out of hand. Both the conversion cap and the healing efficiency are coming down.
- Excess healing converted to Bonus Health reduced from 100 to 50.
- Healing efficiency reduced from 70/s to 60/s.
New: Lucky Loan (Black Cat + White Fox / Captain America)
The new Team-Up centers on Black Cat as the Anchor, pairing the master thief with the mystical Kumiho and the First Avenger.
- As the Team-Up Anchor, Black Cat gains a 5% boost in damage output.
- White Fox unlocks the new Nine-Tailed Aura ability through her Team-Up with Black Cat.
- Captain America unlocks the new Vibranium Bastion ability through his Team-Up with Black Cat.
NetEase hasn't detailed what Nine-Tailed Aura and Vibranium Bastion actually do mechanically. The patch notes confirm only the names and which heroes unlock them.
What This All Means for the Meta
Season 7.5's patch notes give a clear picture of where NetEase wants Marvel Rivals to go in the second half of the season. Chain CC Protection is the defining change, and it's going to reshape which team compositions are viable at the top of the ladder. Heroes whose kits don't lean on hard CC stand to benefit most from the new system, while the CC heavy lineups that had been dominating high level play lose their most oppressive tool.
The hero specific side leaves the Strategist role looking healthier overall, with Ultron's Ultimate rework standing out as a real candidate to shift the meta. Peni Parker's positional pivot and Human Torch's mobility rework both change how those heroes will be played rather than simply how strong they are. Deadpool, Elsa Bloodstone, and Winter Soldier are all getting brought back in line after stretches of dominance.
Black Cat's arrival on April 17 adds another variable. Her Lucky Loan Team-Up with White Fox and Captain America gives two existing heroes brand new abilities to experiment with, and how they actually feel in practice will decide whether that Team-Up defines a new meta or just sits alongside the existing ones.
Season 7.5 is shaping up to be one of the more substantial mid season patches Marvel Rivals has seen. The full impact of Chain CC Protection alone will take weeks of live server data before anyone can confidently call the new meta.
