• Big Iron Fishing Pole: A rare drop from Shellfish Traps in Desolace, offering a hefty +20 skill.

• Cooking Spices: Recipes will often call for Soothing Spices or Hot Spices. These are cheap and readily available from Cooking Supply vendors, usually found near Cooking trainers. Don't overpay at the Auction House for these!

Fishing & Cooking Leveling Guide (1-300)

Alright, apron on, pole in hand? Let's get to the good stuff! This is your roadmap to 300 in both professions, zone by zone, fish by fish, recipe by recipe.

The Splashy Start (Fishing 1-75, Cooking 1-50/65)

This is where your adventure begins, in the tranquil starting zones.

Fishing (1-75)

Learning the Ropes (Apprentice Fishing)

Once you hit level 5, seek out a Fishing trainer.

Where to Cast Your Line

Gear: Grab a basic Fishing Pole and some Shiny Baubles from a local vendor.

Head to any starting zone's lakes, ponds, or rivers (not capital cities for this first stretch!).

• Zones: Elwynn Forest (Eastvale Logging Camp, Stonecairn Lake), Teldrassil (Dolanaar), Durotar (near Orgrimmar, Southfury River), Mulgore (Stonebull Lake, Pools of Vision), Tirisfal Glades (Brightwater Lake), Dun Morogh (Coldridge Valley, Kharanos).
• The Catch: You'll mainly be hooking Raw Brilliant Smallfish and Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper. Coastal areas in these zones will yield Raw Slitherskin Mackerel.

The Technique: Equip your pole, apply a Shiny Bauble, find some water, and click your Fishing ability. Watch the bobber – when it splashes, right-click it! Keep at it until you hit skill 75. You'll probably catch around 60 Raw Brilliant Smallfish and some Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper.

Cooking (1-50/65)

Learning the Basics (Apprentice Cooking)

At level 5, find a Cooking trainer (see table above).

Your First Dishes

The fish you just caught are perfect! Buy Recipe: Brilliant Smallfish from a trade or cooking supplier (like Tharynn Bouden in Goldshire for Alliance, or Harn Longcast in Bloodhoof Village for Horde). Cook all your Raw Brilliant Smallfish. This should get you to skill 50, maybe even 65 if you caught a lot.

If you fished coastal and have Raw Slitherskin Mackerel, vendors also sell Recipe: Slitherskin Mackerel.

Journeyman's Jaunt (Fishing 75-150, Cooking 50/65-125/130)

Time to visit the big cities and venture into slightly more challenging territories!

Fishing (75-150)

Becoming a Journeyman

Head back to your Fishing trainer in a major city (Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus for Alliance; Orgrimmar, Undercity, Thunder Bluff for Horde) and learn Journeyman Fishing.

Where to Cast

Capital cities are safe and convenient bets! The canals of Stormwind or the ponds in Orgrimmar and Thunder Bluff are great. You don't even need lures here for a while.

• Alternative Zones: The Barrens (especially the coast for Oily Blackmouth pools!), Darkshore, Loch Modan, Silverpine Forest, Westfall.
• The Catch: You'll continue to get Raw Brilliant Smallfish and Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper, and now you'll start seeing Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish more regularly. Keep an eye out for pools of Oily Blackmouth along coastlines like in The Barrens or Westfall.

Cooking (50/65-125/130)

Advancing Your Culinary Skills

Visit your Cooking trainer in a major city to learn Journeyman Cooking (requires character level 10 and Cooking 50).

New Recipes on the Menu

• Buy Recipe: Longjaw Mud Snapper from your cooking supplier. Cook all those Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper you've been catching. This should take you to around skill 100 or 115.
• Next up, Recipe: Bristle Whisker Catfish. This recipe is sold by vendors like Catherine Leland in Stormwind (Alliance) or Naal Mistrunner in Thunder Bluff (Horde). Cooking these should get your skill to at least 125.

Expert Angler, Aspiring Chef (Fishing 150-225, Cooking 125/130-225)

Now things get more interesting! You'll be heading to new lands and learning from the masters.

Fishing (150-225)

Becoming an Expert Angler

To train past 150, you need to buy and read the book "Expert Fishing - The Bass and You". This requires character level 20. The renowned angler Old Man Heming sells it in Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale. He's usually found near the fishing sign at the very bottom part of Booty Bay. If he's out of stock or you're far away, check the Auction House.

Where the Big Fish Bite

• Dustwallow Marsh: Highly recommended! The waters here are perfect for skilling up, and it's where the Artisan Fishing quest starts later on. Apply those Bright Baubles to your pole!
• Other Hotspots: Alterac Mountains, Arathi Highlands (especially coastal for pools), Desolace (coastal for pools), Stranglethorn Vale (coastal), Swamp of Sorrows, Thousand Needles (Shimmering Flats coast).
• The Catch: You're looking for Raw Mithril Head Trout and Raw Spotted Yellowtail in inland waters. Coastal areas in these zones are prime for finding pools of Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper – very valuable for Alchemists!

Cooking (125/130-225)

The Expert Cookbook

To learn Expert Cooking (requires character level 20 and Cooking 125), you need to purchase the "Expert Cookbook".

• Alliance: Buy it from Shandrina in Ashenvale.
• Horde: Buy it from Wulan in Shadowprey Village, Desolace. Wulan is on the top floor of the eastern-most building.

130-175: Recipe: Curiously Tasty Omelet is a fantastic choice. It uses 50 Raptor Eggs. The recipe is sold by Kendor Kabonka in Stormwind City and Keena in Arathi Highlands. Raptors in Arathi Highlands and other zones drop these eggs.

175-225: Recipe: Roast Raptor is your go-to. It needs 50 Raptor Flesh. The recipe is sold by Hammon Karwn and Keena in Arathi Highlands.

• Fishy Alternative: Recipe: Mithril Head Trout (uses Raw Mithril Head Trout). Kelsey Yance in Booty Bay sells this recipe (he's in the large building at the end of the ship dock, take an immediate left inside). This is a great way to use the trout you're fishing up!
• Turtle Power: Recipe: Soothing Turtle Bisque (uses Turtle Meat). This recipe is a quest reward from "Soothing Turtle Bisque" in Hillsbrad Foothills (Chef Jessen/Christoph Jeffcoat). Turtles are abundant in southern Hillsbrad and The Hinterlands.

The Artisan's Path (Fishing 225-300, Cooking 225-300)

The pinnacle of your craft! This involves epic quests and truly powerful (and profitable) results.

Fishing (225-300)

The Angler Extreme - Artisan Fishing Quest

To fish beyond 225 (requires character level 35 and Fishing 225), you must undertake a quest from the legendary Nat Pagle himself! Find him in Dustwallow Marsh (he's usually on a small island south of Theramore/east of Mudsprocket). He'll give you the quest "Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme".

Artisan Angling Hotspots (Post-Quest)

Once Nat deems you an Artisan, it's time to hit the high-level zones! Always use Bright Baubles or Aquadynamic Fish Attractors in these zones until your skill is very high (close to 300 or even above with pole/lure to hit 425 for some specific fish/zones).

• Feralas: Excellent for Raw Nightfin Snapper, Raw Sunscale Salmon, and Raw Redgill. Any inland water works, except Jademir Lake (it has different fish like Raw Whitescale Salmon).
• Tanaris: Coastal fishing here yields Stonescale Eel, Raw Spotted Yellowtail, Raw Rockscale Cod, and occasionally Winter Squid or Summer Bass depending on the time/season.
• The Hinterlands: Inland lakes are good for Raw Sunscale Salmon and Raw Nightfin Snapper.
• Azshara: Coastal areas, especially the Bay of Storms, are fantastic for Stonescale Eel, Raw Nightfin Snapper, Raw Sunscale Salmon, and other valuable fish.
• Other Zones: Felwood, Un'Goro Crater, Western/Eastern Plaguelands also offer these high-level fish.

Cooking (225-300)

The Clamlette Surprise - Artisan Cooking Quest

To become an Artisan Cook (requires character level 35 and Cooking 225), you must complete the "Clamlette Surprise" quest given by Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan, Tanaris.

Getting the Quest:

• Horde: Start with "To Gadgetzan You Go!" from Zamja in Orgrimmar.
• Alliance: Start with "I Know A Guy..." from Daryl Riknussun in Ironforge.

Artisan Delicacies (Post-Quest)

Now you can cook some truly epic food!

225-250 (or up to 285 if mats are cheap):

• Recipe: Spotted Yellowtail (uses Raw Spotted Yellowtail from Tanaris, Feralas coast etc.).
• Recipe: Filet of Redgill (uses Raw Redgill from Feralas, Felwood, etc.). Recipe from Kelsey Yance in Booty Bay.
• Recipe: Monster Omelet (uses Giant Eggs). Recipe from Himmik in Everlook, Winterspring (inside the inn) or Malygen (Alliance)/Bale (Horde) in Felwood.
• Recipe: Tender Wolf Steak (uses Tender Wolf Meat from high-level wolves).
• Recipe: Undermine Clam Chowder (uses Zesty Clam Meat and Ice Cold Milk). Recipe from Jabbey in Tanaris.

250-300 (or 275-300): This is where your fishing efforts truly pay off for raiding!

• Recipe: Nightfin Soup (uses Raw Nightfin Snapper). This is a prime mana regeneration food for casters!
• Recipe: Poached Sunscale Salmon (uses Raw Sunscale Salmon). Excellent health regeneration food.

• Use: Cooked into Nightfin Soup for +8 Mana per 5 seconds (MP5). Essential for casters in long fights.
• Locations: Inland waters of Feralas (Verdantis River, Wildwind Lake – not Jademir Lake), Azshara (rivers/lakes), The Hinterlands (inland lakes), Eastern & Western Plaguelands, Moonglade, Un'Goro Crater, Winterspring.
• Best Time to Fish: 12:00 AM - 6:00 AM server time is prime time, as Raw Sunscale Salmon don't spawn then, increasing Nightfin catch rates. They can also be caught between 6 PM - 12 AM and 6 AM - 12 PM, but you'll share spawns with Sunscale Salmon.
• Secret Spots: The pool of Gahz'rilla in Zul'Farrak and inside the Temple of Atal'Hakkar (Sunken Temple, outside the instance portal) are rumored to be good, and you might even snag Nightfins during the day in the Temple!

Stonescale Eel (The Tank's Shield)

• Use: Used by Alchemists to make Stonescale Oil, a key ingredient in Greater Stoneshield Potions (a must-have for tanks) and the coveted Flask of the Titans.
• Locations: Coastal waters. Look for "Stonescale Eel Swarm" pools. Prime spots include the western coast of Stranglethorn Vale, the northern coast of Tanaris, the Bay of Storms in Azshara, and the coast of Feralas.
• Best Time to Fish: Similar to Nightfin, 12:00 AM - 6:00 AM server time is optimal. Catch rates are decent from 6 PM - 12 AM and 6 AM - 12 PM, but try to avoid fishing for them between 12 PM - 6 PM server time, as rates are lowest then.

Winter Squid (The Rogue's Delight) / Summer Bass (Seasonal)

• Use: Winter Squid is cooked into Grilled Squid for +10 Agility. Summer Bass can be used for Hot Smoked Bass (+10 Spirit).
• Locations: Coastal waters of Tanaris, Feralas, and Azshara (Bay of Storms) are good bets for these seasonal catches.
• Best Time to Fish: These are often time-sensitive. Data suggests the best time is 12 PM - 6 PM server time for these, with average rates from 6 AM - 12 PM and 6 PM - 12 AM. They might be less common or absent from 12 AM - 6 AM. Note: Winter Squid are typically available during winter months, Summer Bass during summer months in original WoW.

Deviate Fish (The Fun Fish!)

• Use: Cooked into Savory Deviate Delight for a fun pirate or ninja transformation! Also used by Alchemists for Elixir of Giant Growth. Eating them raw can give random buffs/debuffs.
• Locations: The oases in The Barrens – specifically the one right outside Wailing Caverns, and the ones northwest and southeast of the Crossroads. You can also fish them up inside the Wailing Caverns instance.
• Recipe Source: Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight is a random world drop, often from mobs in The Barrens. It can also be found on the Auction House, sometimes cheaper in Booty Bay's neutral AH.
• Faction Advantage: Since The Barrens is Horde territory, Alliance players might find Deviate Fish and its recipe sell for more on their faction's AH, making it a lucrative (though potentially dangerous) farm.

Oily Blackmouth & Firefin Snapper (Alchemy Staples)

• Use: Oily Blackmouth makes Blackmouth Oil (for Free Action Potions, Swim Speed Potions). Firefin Snapper makes Fire Oil (for Fire Protection Potions, Elixir of Greater Firepower).
• Locations:
